Credentials

Jay is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) as well as a North Carolina Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC). He is certified in Prepare and Enrich, a program used for pre-marriage and marriage counseling. His wealth of life experience and knowledge has been beneficial in various clinical settings.

Education

Jay holds a Master’s in Counseling from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary. His undergraduate degree is in education from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.

Specialties

Jay works with those dealing with the pain and burdens of life: depression, anxiety, shame, adjustment difficulties, career issues, relationship concerns, trauma recovery, and addiction. He works with men, women, couples, and young adults. His goal is to walk with his clients down the path they are on, helping them to determine their goals, see new opportunities, and make changes as they learn new perspectives. His approach to therapy is more casual and conversational. While using eclectic therapeutic techniques, Jay will work with his clients to focus on changing their emotional and thought processes to help them achieve their goals. He looks for dysfunctional patterns or cycles in his clients’ lives and helps them to realize the possibility of change. In his counseling room there is only acceptance and room for all.

Jay has done years of work with parents struggling with the difficulties of losing a child. This includes those who have suffered miscarriages, abortions, stillborn births, infant loss, child loss, as well as the loss of a child at any age. Losing a child is one of the most devastating life circumstances ever, as he learned from his Great Grandmother, who shared her experience with him after losing her 60 year old daughter at 90 years old. “No one should ever have to experience this loss, and no one should ever have to walk it alone, “ Jay says.

Men seeking therapy have found Jay to be a resource for the help they need. Jay brings a deep level of life experiences that many men find helpful. Jay’s work in corporate America for 35 years allows him to understand and help men walk the path they are on, or even to change paths. His male clients range from 16 to 85 years old. Whether the issue is about relationships, career, work/ life balance, parenting, trauma recovery, or life circumstances, Jay is able to walk alongside without any condemnation or judgment so they can find the healing for their hearts, minds, and souls.
